Free, custom visualizations for performers trying to reach the stay-at-home audience

The Situation

  • We’re all stuck at home, looking for something to watch.
  • Music helps soothe the soul
  • It’s easy to procedurally generate visuals specific to your music

What You Do

  • Record your performance in your DAW
  • If your piece includes vocals or non-midi live tracks, convert those tracks to a clean midi track, or add a keyboard track that mirrors the live performance
  • Save the project in 2 files
    1. Audio file as .wav or .ogg
    2. Multi-track MIDI file
  • Upload those 2 files to an online folder (DropBox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc.)
  • (Optional) Add any images or reference art to inspire the visualization you want
  • Share link to folder to PaintedRock@SpontaneousQuirK.com

What You Get

  • A video uploaded to the shared folder that synchronizes your music with custom visuals
  • You can use that video however you like (stream it, upload to YouTube or FaceBook, etc.)

The Deal

  • You give me the right to create a video using the assets you upload
  • I give you the right to use and distribute the video however you like
  • There is no financial arrangement between us
  • If you choose to make money from the video (e.g., YouTube ads), I only ask that you share at least 25% of the gross proceeds with a charity of your choosing

The Tech

Unlike traditional rhythm-based visualizers, I use DARlight to procedurally visualize every note of every instrument

Everything you hear you see, and everything you see you hear.

The Art

While abstract forms work best, the visualizations can be anything…water fountains, glowing stones, stars in the sky.

Colors and shapes are matched to instruments to make it easier to follow the arrangement
